Empowering Young Voices: Launch of the Children Parliament at Chennai High School
Chennai, October 10, 2025 — Sexual Health Educators (SHE), an organization committed to empowering socially disadvantaged and vulnerable communities through education and advocacy, in collaboration with Governance Magnify, proudly inaugurated the Children Parliament – A Platform for the Voices of Children at Chennai High School, MMDA, Arumbakkam.
This marks the first time the Children Parliament is being introduced in Corporation schools, setting a milestone in participatory education and child-led community engagement. The event was inaugurated by Mr. M.K. Mohan, Member of the Legislative Assembly, who symbolically watered a sapling alongside other dignitaries, signifying growth and new beginnings.

Ms. Leelavathy, Executive Director of SHE, warmly welcomed the guests and shared the vision and objectives behind the initiative. Keynote speakers included: Dr. T.G. Srinivvasan, Health Education Officer, Greater Chennai Corporation; Mr. N. Adiyaman, Ward Councillor (105), who emphasized the role of education, discipline, and child participation; Dr. Sulu Priya, Head of the Department of Social Work, D.G. Vaishnav College, who addressed the students on the importance of active participation; Mr. Gnanasekar Dhanapal, CEO and Director of Governance Magnify, who elaborated on the concept and benefits of the Children Parliament
The Children Parliament provides a democratic platform for school children to express their views, deliberate on issues that affect them and their communities, and collaboratively seek solutions. This initiative not only nurtures leadership, responsibility, and civic engagement among students, but also supports the realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
By enabling children to participate in decision-making processes from an early age, SHE and Governance Magnify are paving the way for a more inclusive, aware, and empowered future generation. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Andal, Headmistress of Chennai High School.
