Chennai, September 12, 2025: The 64th Annual General Meeting and All India Conference of the Federation of Paper Traders Associations of India (FPTA) commenced today in Chennai, bringing together over 600 delegates from 36+ associations across the country.
The three-day national event was inaugurated by Dr. Sandeep Saxena, IAS, CMD, Tamil Nadu Newsprint & Paper Ltd. (TNPL), and presided over by outgoing FPTA President Mr. Mehul J. Mehta. Guests of honour included Mr. Ved Krishna (Pakka Ltd.), Mr. Saifee Jani (Jani Sales Pvt. Ltd.), and Mr. Prakash Garg (NPT Group).

Organised by the Madras Paper Merchants Association (MPMA), a founding FPTA member, this marks the 10th time MPMA is hosting the prestigious event. Key agenda items include: GST slab revision from 12% to 18%; Import challenges and Industry sustainability and future trends
Mr. Rajesh Jain (Chennai) will be sworn in as FPTA President 2025-26. A first-generation entrepreneur, he heads Rajlakshmi Paper Agencies and Panchsheel Packaging Solutions, and has played an active role in both MPMA and FPTA.
In his remarks, Mr. Mehul J. Mehta highlighted the sector’s economic importance, employing over 500,000 people directly and supporting 2 million livelihoods. He called for uniform 5% GST on all paper and paperboard products under Chapter 48 to avoid the inverted duty structure that currently burdens MSMEs.
President-elect Mr. Rajesh Jain emphasized FPTA’s role in myth-busting on sustainability, stating that 74%-75% of Indian paper is recycled, with the rest sourced through plantation-grown wood, bamboo, and agro-residues like wheat straw and bagasse.
