Council for Leather Exports to organise "Soles for Souls" Marathon 'Run for Drug-Free Society'

Chennai: The Council for Leather Exports (CLE), Sponsored by Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India is organizing a "Soles for Souls" Marathon 'Run for Drug-Free Society' on Sunday, the 29th September 2024 in Chennai, with a primary focus on raising awareness about drug free society besides promoting the brand image of footwear and leather industry. This landmark event, which will be held at Island Grounds, aims to bring together over 5,000 participants, including runners, students, youth, NGOs, workers and corporates, to support a noble cause that affects us all.

The Marathon is being organized with the support of Government of Tamil Nadu and in partnership with the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC), SIPCOT, Greater Chennai Police and many educational and training institutions and Colleges in the Chennai city i.e. Guru Nanak College, Chennai Institute of Technology, Murugappa Polytechnic College, Anna University, Madras University, Madras Christen College, Loyola College, Central Leather Research Institute, Footwear Design and Development Institute, Central Footwear Training Institute and many more.

CLE is the largest and the apex trade promotion organization for India's growing footwear, leather and leather products industry. Committed to the sector's domestic development and boosting export growth, CLE aims to increase India's share in global footwear and leather trade. Functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India, CLE is the nodal Export Promotion organization for the entire footwear and leather industry.

Each participant will be provided a T-shirt, Finisher Medal, E- Certificate and Race Day Hydration and breakfast. The marathon is expected to not only raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and its impact on society, but also promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage physical activity among runner and also foster a sense of community and camaraderie among participants.

The pre-event expo will be held on September 28, 2024 at Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Adyar wherein all participants and stakeholders will be briefed about the minute to minute programme.

Shri Rajendra Kumar Jalan, Chairman, Council for Leather Exports said "The Soles for Souls Marathon is the first of its kind of event organized by CLE. We request huge participation from all sections of the society including students, youth and workers. These participants in turn should carry forward the theme of the marathon to their friends, relatives and the public in general. With the success of this marathon, we aim to expand this to cities such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Agra and Kanpur as well in future".

Shri R. Selvam, Executive Director, Council for Leather Exports said "It is important to have healthier minds and physique so as to achieve our objective of becoming a developed nation by 2047. The Soles for Souls marathon is a small step in promoting healthier lifestyle. I am sure that this marathon will be a big motivator for the participants and will achieve its objective of promoting drug free society".
