Awareness Programme on Primary Angioplasty at Gleneagles Global Health City
- OVER 100 PATIENTS RELEASE BALLOONS TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT PRIMARY ANGIOPLASTY
Chennai, 18th June 2022: Gleneagles Global Health City (GGHC), a leading multi-specialty hospital in Chennai, hosted a session on primary angioplasty, intending to motivate the public on the importance of heart health. Dr. C. Sylendra Babu (IPS, Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu), along with senior doctors, Dr. Gobu P (HOD & Senior Consultant – Institute of Cardiac Sciences), Dr. Murugu Sundara Pandiyan (Senior Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon), Dr. Susan George (Senior Consultant Cardiologist), Dr. J Karthick Anjaneyan (Consultant & Interventional Cardiologist), Dr. Bharath Kumar. G (Consultant & Interventional Cardiologist) and primary angioplasty beneficiaries released helium balloons in the air to create awareness of primary angioplasty.

Dr. Gobu P, Senior Consultant & Interventional Cardiologist, Gleneagles Global Health City, said, “Compared to the western world, the incidence of coronary artery diseases is much more in India, and the severity is much higher too. We also see a trend of these diseases affecting more of the younger population in our country compared to the western world. We have observed that about 1/4th of heart attack patients admitted to our hospital are below 45 years of age. The advancements in cardiac sciences have paved the way to improve quality of life with excellent clinical outcomes. Primary angioplasty is the ’gold standard’ treatment in acute heart attacks; it ensures the complete opening of the occluded blood vessels. Performing a primary angioplasty within the golden hour is crucial; it requires expertise and infrastructure. The procedural success rate for primary angioplasty is as high as 98%. We have successfully performed over 300 primary angioplasties so far since the inception of our flagship program.” |
