Sesi (Shoulder And Elbow Society Of India) National Shoulder Meet 2021 And 2nd Chennai Advanced Shoulder Course Hosted In Mgm Healthcare

6th December 2021, Chennai: The SESI (Shoulder and Elbow Society of India) National Shoulder Meet 2021 and 2nd Chennai Advanced Shoulder Course was hosted in MGM Healthcare on Saturday, 4th December 2021. The event proved to be an incredible success, with 10 eminent international faculty joining the conference online and 30 national faculty members physically attending in Chennai, all sharing their varied experience and academic insights. The conference was attended by over 200 delegates, of whom a 100 were allowed to be physically present at the venue due to COVID 19 SOP compliance.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Ram Chidambaram, Director of Shoulder, Elbow, Hand and Sports Medicine at MGM Healthcare, Chennai served as chairman of the event. As the current president of the Shoulder and Elbow Society of India, he feels proud to have convened the first ever physical shoulder meeting in India after the pandemic. The conference was inaugurated in the presence of Dr Ashish Babhulkar (Founder President SESI), Dr Jitendra Maheshwari (former president, SESI), Dr Vivek Pandey (secretary, SESI), Mr Harish Manian (CEO, MGM Healthcare) and Dr Anand Mohan Pai (DMS, MGM Healthcare). The theme of the conference was 'What's new in shoulder surgery?'All current updates and cutting edge technology in the field of shoulder surgery were discussed in the meeting. This was well received by delegates from all over India, many of whom left plenty of positive feedback praising the high-tier academic content

Dr Ram Chidambaram says that although shoulder problems affect people in all age groups, there is very little awareness about the nature and treatment of such problems amongst the common public. People can suffer a myriad of conditions, ranging from dislocation, sports injuries and rotator cuff tears to frozen shoulders, arthritis and traumatic fractures. However, these conditions are often ignored or improperly diagnosed, when they could be successfully treated with the right care. Many technological advances have been made in shoulder arthroscopy (keyhole surgery), shoulder joint replacement and fracture fixation techniques. When employed by a skilled surgeon, these advances help improve treatment outcome and quality of life.

Dr Ram Chidambaram therefore considers it imperative to equip the younger generation of orthopaedic surgeons with the necessary skills and knowledge to help patients with shoulder problems achieve a painless recovery and return to pre-injury status. The SESI National Shoulder Meet he organised this year has certainly helped towards reaching his objective.
