Chennai: Continuing its commitment to promoting entrepreneurship while celebrating Chettinad’s rich cultural legacy, the Karaikudi Nagarathar Sangam Chennai (KNSC) successfully hosted the latest edition of “Karaikudi Sandhai” on January 4, 2026, at the Ramachandra Convention Centre.

The community-driven marketplace witnessed an overwhelming response, drawing over 12,000 visitors, and emerged as a vibrant confluence of tradition, culture, and contemporary enterprise. The 2026 edition marked a significant milestone in community-led commerce, reinforcing the relevance of heritage-based entrepreneurship in a modern economy.

A major highlight of the Sandhai was its strong focus on inclusive entrepreneurship. The exhibition showcased products from 149 women entrepreneurs, offering everything from handcrafted goods to lifestyle products, while a special segment featuring 70 “Kidpreneurs” encouraged entrepreneurial thinking among the younger generation.

Visitors were treated to a rich display of Chettinad’s cultural treasures, including traditional jewelry such as the iconic Kazhuthuru and Gowrisangam, Chettinad baskets, vegan silk sarees, and handmade crochet bags. Adding to the cultural immersion were intricate pencil sketches of historic Chettinad mansions and displays of traditional utensils, highlighting the region’s architectural and domestic heritage.

The event also celebrated Chettinad’s famed culinary legacy, with food stalls serving authentic traditional delicacies on banana leaves, offering visitors a truly immersive gastronomic experience.

More than just a marketplace, Karaikudi Sandhai 2026 stood out as a powerful platform for economic empowerment and cultural preservation. By bridging traditional artistry with a contemporary audience, KNSC continues to nurture self-reliance among artisans and entrepreneurs, ensuring that the timeless legacy of Chettinad thrives for generations to come.
