Celebrating Excellence: 110 Graduates Receive Degrees at Sree Balaji Dental College’s 32nd Convocation

Chennai, January 30, 2026: Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital (SBDCH), a premier centre for dental education and research, celebrated the graduation of its 32nd batch with a grand convocation ceremony, honouring academic excellence and awarding degrees to 110 graduates, comprising 84 Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and 26 Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) students.

Prof. Dr. Rahul Hegde, Executive Committee Member of the Dental Council of India, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The convocation was presided over by Dr. Jagathrakshagan, Founder Chairperson, in the presence of Dr. J. Srinisha, Chairperson; Er. N. Elamaran, Managing Director, Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital; Dr. Sundararajan, Vice Chancellor; and Dr. S. Bhuminathan, Registrar, Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (Deemed University).

Addressing the gathering, Dr. J. Srinisha highlighted the institution’s consistent growth and academic achievements, noting that SBDCH secured the 5th rank in Tamil Nadu and the 27th rank nationally among nearly 340 dental colleges in the India Rankings 2025 released by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). Congratulating the graduates, she urged them to uphold ethical practices, embrace patient-centred care, and use their knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to society.

In his address, Dr. M. S. Kannan, Dean, Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital, outlined the institution’s academic and research milestones. He said SBDCH has entered into 36 national and international collaborations, including Memoranda of Understanding with the University of Leeds—signed at the British High Commission in New Delhi—and with the Faculty of Dentistry, Chiang Mai University, Thailand. These collaborations have opened avenues for joint research, faculty and student exchange, and dual-degree and doctoral programmes.

Dr. Kannan further noted that the institution has published over 1,400 indexed research papers and secured more than 50 patents in recent years. The college hospital has treated over 1.5 lakh patients, recording a 25.4 per cent increase over the previous year, and has conducted more than 70 community outreach programmes. He also highlighted that SBDCH is the only Asian centre of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow for the MOrth examination, which was conducted at the campus from November 19 to 21 last year.

The ceremony marked a proud milestone for the institution and its graduating students, reinforcing SBDCH’s commitment to excellence in dental education, research, and community service.
