Chennai :  Vasan Eye Care Hospital is proud to offer free treatment for Diabetic Retinopathy under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS).This initiative aims to combat vision loss due to diabetes, which affects 1 in 10 diabetic individuals, with higher prevalence in South Tamil Nadu.

Treatment options at Vasan include Laser Therapy and Intravitreal Injections to stop damage and preserve vision.The CMCHIS scheme also covers Cataract Surgery (including pediatric cases), Congenital Eye Defects, and Glaucoma. To avail benefits, patients need a CMCHIS card, Aadhaar, Family Card, and income proof (<₹1,20,000/year).Registration can be done at Taluk offices or e-Sevai centers.

This program is part of the Chief Minister’s Vision for Accessible Eye Care. India has 77 million diabetics (2019), projected to rise to 134 million by 2045, making such initiatives vital.20% of diabetics are affected by retinopathy, and 10% of them face severe vision loss.On this occasion, Vasan Eye Care is offering 1-month free eye consultation to promote early screening.We encourage all eligible patients to make use of this important opportunity.

Asokan, Consultant – Medical Retina, stated, "Early detection through annual retina screening can prevent permanent vision loss in diabetic patients."Diabetic Retinopathy, a condition caused by high blood sugar damaging retinal blood vessels, often progresses silently until vision loss begins. Symptoms include blurred vision, dark spots (floaters), faded colors, and retinal bleeding. Main causes of vision loss: Macular edema (retinal swelling) and hemorrhage (bleeding).
