Sri City, March 21, 2025: Oji India Packaging Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of the globally renowned Oji Group, officially inaugurated its Sri City plant, which is their 5th plant in India and the largest unit producing corrugated boxes and packaging accessories in South Asia. This expansion reinforces the company’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for sustainable and high-quality corrugated packaging solutions in South India.
The grand inauguration was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by esteemed dignitaries—Mr Muneo Takahashi, Consul-General of Japan in Chennai; Mr Hiroyuki Isono, President & Group CEO of Oji Holdings Corporation; Dr Ravindra Sannareddy, Founder Managing Director of Sri City; and Mr Yoshiyuki Kurahashi, CEO of Oji India Packaging—joined by senior executives from leading client and supplier companies.
Mr Hiroyuki Isono addressed the gathering, underscoring India's significance in their global growth strategy. He highlighted the new plant as a comprehensive solution for South India's packaging needs, built on sustainability and innovation. He also appreciated Sri City's support in facilitating the plant’s timely setup. Mr Yoshiyuki Kurahashi outlined Oji India’s journey in the country and shared insights into its future plans.
Mr Muneo Takahashi highlighted that Oji Group’s expansion reflects strong Japan-India ties, praising the facility's potential to set new benchmarks in sustainable packaging while driving regional growth. He credited Sri City for enhancing Indo-Japanese business ties, highlighting its status as India’s second-largest Japanese township. Quoting the Indian Prime Minister, he noted that Sri City has propelled Andhra Pradesh into a leading manufacturing hub.
Dr Ravindra Sannareddy congratulated the Oji India team, highlighting that it is the 31st Japanese company in Sri City. He emphasised that Oji’s choice to set up its plant here reflects the robust industrial ecosystem that has developed in Sri City. “Their presence will enhance supply chain efficiency and cater to the packaging needs of existing industries. We are proud to welcome yet another global leader to our thriving manufacturing hub,” he stated. He also commended Oji’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, recognising its efforts to develop eco-friendly packaging solutions.
Oji India's Sri City plant, a state-of-the-art automated plant spanning 43,000 sq. meters, caters to the growing demand for corrugated boxes in South India, with an annual capacity of 100 million m². The company is currently employing 130 people and plans to expand its workforce to 300, demonstrating its commitment to job creation and skill development. Specialising in heavy-duty boxes and packaging solutions, Oji India supports diverse industries, enhancing protection, efficiency, and sustainability. Its Sri-City presence strengthens the industrial ecosystem, optimising supply chains for manufacturers.
Established in 2012, Oji India has a strong financial base with ₹245 crore of authorised capital and ₹242.95 crore of paid-up capital and now operates plants across Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Punjab. The new Sri City facility aligns with Oji's global expansion strategy, contributing to India's industrial growth.
