  • Over 200 volunteers collected about one  ton of waste and debris

Chennai, 25th January 2025 – In anticipation of National Cleanliness Day on January 30, 2025, Athulya Senior Care, under its flagship initiative, #CaringForASenior, organized a major community-driven beach cleaning event at Besant Nagar Beach. The initiative, held in collaboration with Urbaser Sumeet and the Madras School of Social Work, is part of Athulya's promise to environmental sustainability, senior well-being, and social responsibility.

Athulya Senior Care celebrates National Cleanliness Day 2025

With a strong focus on both environmental care and elder advocacy, this prelude to National Cleanliness Day brought together over 200 volunteers, including Athulya’s dedicated staff, students, environmentalists, and local residents, united by a common cause: cleaning up Chennai’s iconic Besant Nagar Beach. The volunteers worked tirelessly for two hours, removing significant amounts of waste, leaving the beach cleaner and more beautiful for the community to enjoy.

Athulya’s Founder and CEO, Mr. Srinivasan G., emphasized the importance of bringing about a cleaner and more inclusive environment for all generations. "At Athulya, we believe that a clean and safe environment is a fundamental component of our senior citizens' health and happiness," said Mr. Srinivasan. "Through our #CaringForASenior initiative, we aim to encourage a culture of respect and care for elders, while simultaneously promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship. This beach cleaning activity is a prime example of how collaboration and community action can lead to meaningful change.”

The event also highlighted the growing impact of the #CaringForASenior initiative, which has become a catalyst for important social conversations about elder care, inclusivity, and community involvement. Athulya has spearheaded a variety of social projects aimed at improving the quality of life for senior citizens, including improving temple accessibility, organizing walkathons to promote active aging, and donating ambulances to Kaval Karangal to provide elder-friendly emergency care.

As part of the lead-up to National Cleanliness Day, the beach cleaning drive served as a demonstration of how collective action can create a tangible impact on both the environment and the lives of seniors. Through initiatives like these, Athulya Senior Care is redefining how elder care intersects with more social issues, making it clear that care for seniors extends far beyond the walls of assisted living facilities.

The efforts of the event leading up to National Cleanliness Day 2025 are a reminder of the power of community-led initiatives in driving positive change and creating a cleaner, greener, and more inclusive society.
