Chennai, March 08, 2024: International Women’s Day celebrated at Capstone Multi-Speciality Clinic, Nungambakkam today  under the “Strong Women, Stronger Immunity” theme. This Adult Vaccination campaign was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Smt. Bharathi Baskar, a prominent Tamil Orator and Writer, in the presence of Dr. Aruna Mohan, the Co-founder & CEO of The Capstone Multi-Speciality Clinic along with several other eminent personalities from multiple sectors.

To commemorate International Women’s Day, several special offers are being extended including concessions of a percentage equal to your age on all consultations, for ex. A 30 year old woman gets 30% and a 70 years old woman gets a 70% concession. This special concession will run upto March 16 as part of Capstone’s tribute to women. Apart from the above, Capstone announced a special concession of 15% on master health checkup for men who accompany the women in their families to the clinic.

The main objective of this campaign is to raise awareness about the utmost importance of administering adult vaccines particularly the Shingles vaccine and how it can save one from years of pain and health complications. There is a huge gap when it comes to awareness of adult vaccination except for a couple of vaccines like the Tetanus Toxoid (TT) shot post injuries and the vaccine for Hepatitis B. This is a problem we must address with urgency, and the situation is further amplified as there aren’t any National Adult Immunisation guidelines in India, especially on who should receive which vaccines based on age, underlying conditions etc.

Commenting on the new adult vaccination campaign, Dr. Aruna Mohan, Co-Founder & CEO said, “Through this campaign, our team is working hard to educate the general public especially women about the importance of taking adult vaccines, specifically for a viral infection like Shingles (herpes zoster) where women are at a 19% increased risk compared to men. This virus typically affects adults over 50 years of age and causes a painful rash with blisters which could lead to several serious complications.”

While child immunization stands at 89% in India currently, the awareness for adult vaccination stands at a staggeringly low 16%. The above data is enough to prove that a lot has to be done to increase the adult vaccination numbers in India. This is an alert for all of us particularly women, to prioritise our health, with the effective preventive measure of vaccination.

Overall there were about 100 participants who underwent general and other check-ups and several of them who were above 50+ years of age have agreed to take the shingles vaccine in the following days.

We at Capstone, would like to thank all the strong women of today for the hard work they have been constantly doing tirelessly whether at home, in society or the workplace.
