For the road work, 880 acres of agricultural land is to be acquired in the areas around Palliput and Oothukottai in Tiruvallur district. A demand has been made that roads should be constructed without acquiring agricultural lands.

For this, a protest committee has also been formed. The consultation meeting of this protest group was held yesterday in Manadi, Chennai. Retired Supreme Court Judge Markandeya Katju, President of Jai 'Kisan Andolan' Farmers Organization Avik Shaka, Road Protest Coordinator Ram Naidu and others participated in this.

As the land acquisition work is about to start, the next step was discussed in detail. Then, retired Justice Markandeya Katju said: Farmers rights should be upheld. Livelihoods must be protected. The lands of subsistence farmers should not be taken away. A Public Interest Litigation will soon be filed in the Madras High Court regarding this issue.

AK Kareem, State Secretary, SDPI coordinated the meeting at SDPI Office, Mannady, Chennai
