Indian musical legend, Maestro Ilaiyaraaja back in Malaysia to thrill fans with decades of hits

  • Joining Ilaiyaraaja on stage will be singer SP Balasubrahmanyam (SPB), alongside Mano, Shweta Mohan, Haricharan, Usha Uthup, Surmukhi, Vibhavari, Madhu Balakrishnan, Mukesh, Priya Himesh, Anitha and Bhavatharani.
Chennai, 6 March 2020 — Indian musical legend, Maestro Ilaiyaraaja will entertain his Malaysian fans at the MITEC (Malaysian International Trade & Exhibition Centre) on March 14, 2020. Backed by an orchestra and a slew of playback singers, the concert promises to recreate nearly five decades worth of musical memories in one night. Organised by Mojo Projects Sdn Bhd, the four-hour-long live musical extravaganza is expected to see a crowd of over 10,000 spectators.

Recognizing the contribution of Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja to music lovers in Malaysia, the Consulate General of Malaysia and the Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board, with the support of the concert organiser, Mojo Projects Sdn Bhd and Malindo Air, held a press conference today at the Taj Connemara. Ilaiyaraaja was honored with a memento of appreciation.

Consul General of the Chennai Consulate, H.E. Saravanan Karathihayan was quoted saying, “Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja is a composer of great appeal and musicianship. His creative energies shine with youthful vigour and his music has been a source of happiness and pleasure for the people in Malaysia. It gives us great pleasure to welcome him to our country to perform.”

 Chief Executive Officer of Mojo Projects, Ratna K Nadarajan, said, “From the flamboyant to the traditional, the songs remain evergreen. Ilaiyaraaja's songs not only have music, it has story, costumes, and orchestra. His theatre is more than art itself. It gives us great pride to be showcasing the Maestro’s concert back home”.

Director of Tourism Malaysia (South India & SriLanka), Razaidi Abd Rahim, informed that Tourism Malaysia is looking forward to support such events in Malaysia, in hopes of promoting Malaysia as a preferred travel destination not only for leisure, business and MICE, but also for concerts and film shootings.

Head - Communications & Promotions (South Asia) for Malindo Air,Suresh Vanan said that they were glad to have been the official Airline Partner and recorded his appreciation towards events such as these to encourage travellers from all parts of India to travel to Malaysia. Further to this he said that Malindo Air is offering promotional fare domestically in Malaysia, to connect Indian travelers to other cities in Malaysia in conjunction with VM2020.

For VM2020 (Visit Malaysia 2020), Malaysia targets 30 million international tourist arrivals and RM 100 billion in receipts.
